Here’s a short guide on all the misunderstandings that society has about crossdressers.Crossdressing is a really fun and exciting adventure once you have the clothes. Especially if you’re not familiar with it, check out the main facts below.
1 Crossdressers are gay
This is the biggest myth of them all. Most crossdressers are heterosexual. Period. Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any gay crossdressers but they are probably as common as they are among any other part of the male population.
2 Crossdressers are women in men’s bodies
Just as false as myth nr.1. Women in men’s bodies often cross dress but in their case you can hardly call it crossdressing because they really are women.
This is a rare thing though and you’ll find that the vast majority of crossdressers are men in men’s bodies.
3 Crossdressers are crazy
If anything, cross dressers MORE healthy than the average man. Why? Because they’re not afraid to do something that they enjoy no matter what society tries to deny them. Often they also don’t care what others think. They don’t try to conform or follow the crowd. They want to experience life to the fullest and not some trimmed version of it – especially not when others get to decide what part of life you’re allowed to experience and what not.
The only reason some cross dressers seem to have issues more often is because of idiots and conformists who try to forbid them to crossdressor brand them in some negative way because of their own issues.
4 Crossdressers are rare
It is hard to get reliable statistics on crossdressing because so many do it in secret. Also, many cross dress in a very small way such as wearing panties under a regular man’s outfit. If you include all that into crossdressing, then I can assure you that there are many many men who do this. From what I’ve seen in the real world and on the internet, I would guess that at least one in ten men have worn women’s clothes at some point in their lives (not including costumes of course). I could be wrong though, but it’s likely to be more rather than less.
5 Crossdressing is addictive
Anything can become an addiction but that doesn’t mean that you could classify anything as addictive. Crossdressing is just wearing clothes and, though there might be some who can’t do without, that doesn’t mean that they should or that it poses a problem of some kind. The only problems that crossdressing ever causes is due to other people not accepting it.
6 Crossdressing is a fetish
Not any more than girls’ love of shoes is. Yes, some love the fabrics and perhaps very few have an obsessive love for them but that is neither a bad thing nor is it something that all crossdressers have. In order for crossdressing to qualify as such it would have to be an abnormality (myth nr. 4) but wearing women’s clothes can’t be called abnormal since women wear them all the time.
7 Women don’t like crossdressers
This is a tricky one because it depends on the woman. Of course there are some women who don’t and never will like crossdressers but there are also some women who will never like men who wear cords. The truth is that most women are very conformist and the reason they are concerned about crossdressers is nearly always because they think the above myths are true. In other words, they don’t really know what cross dressing is about. They’re afraid the man won’t be attracted to them, or that he’ll dump them for another man or that he will turn into a woman.
I think the majority of women wouldn’t mind their boyfriend crossdressing if they knew what it really is about. So it’s up to the guys to tell their girlfriends. Go to my article on how to tell your partner that you crossdress.
8 Crossdressers just don’t want to be men
Not to be confused with myth nr. 2. This one implies that crossdressers want to opt out of their male responsibilities and duties in society. Well, actually I think all men should opt out of these as they are nothing but oppression of men but that’s another topic. Wearing clothes doesn’t necessarily say anything about your social status unless you want it to. So that is a very cheap and sexist conclusion.
9 Crossdressers are exhibitionists
Since most of them do it secretly, you can hardly still believe this myth. I think it came about because there are some exhibitionist crossdressers who love to put on a show and they draw huge amounts of attention so everyone starts to think that's typical behavior even though it isn’t.
10 Crossdressing is making fun of women
Get a life! Seriously, if you believe that, then you really need to grow up. I was going to come up with an equivalent phrase where male and female are reversed but I can’t because there isn’t anything for men that isn’t also open to women. From what I’ve seen, crossdressing is usually a kind of worship of everything feminine.
